COPROT  is a community-driven conservation project that aims to conserve sea turtle nesting beach habitat on the the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. We protect 8km of beach where we register over 7000 nests per season from the Olive Ridley and Pacific green species.

What we do

  • Conservation and Research

Protect and support turtle populations by safeguarding nests, relocating them when necessary, patrolling beaches to reduce predation and poaching, rehabilitating injured turtles, conducting beach clean-ups with recycling efforts, and gathering data to inform policy and research.

  • Community Involvement in Conservation

Empower the community by creating stable jobs for locals, including former gold miners and poachers, educating on conservation and sustainable practices, providing English lessons to build leadership, and expanding ecotourism to support additional local organizations.

  • Education and Activism

Advance ecological sustainability on the Osa Peninsula by promoting sustainable economic opportunities, leveraging social media for environmental awareness, supporting policy development, and implementing innovative conservation methods.
